Nonlinear Coupling Motion Numerical Simulation of Freely Floating Body and Sloshing

Nonlinear interactions among incident wave, tank-sloshing and freely floating body coupled motion are investigated. The fully nonlinear sloshing and body-surface nonlinear free surface hydrodynamics is simulated using a non-uniform rational B-spline higher-order panel method (NURBS) in time domain based on the potential theory. A robust and stable improved iterative procedure, iterative semi-implicit time integration method for floating bodies (Yan and Ma, 2007) is used for calculating the time derivative of velocity potential and floating body motion. An energy dissipation method adopted by Huang (2011) is developed to consider flow viscosity effects of sloshing flow in liquid tanks. It is observed that the present nonlinear approach can help produce a fair agreement between experimental results (Rognebakke and Faltinsen, 2003) and those of numerical simulations.
